Kashmir Vaishnavism

Has anyone ever read or heard of the Kashmiri Ramayana, Ramavataracarita by Sri Prakasa Rama Kunyagrami? I know it’s available in English translation, but I was wondering if I can find out some info on it and see if it’s worth reading.

Also, somewhere on tribe, maybe a year ago, there was a posting about a text of a dead school of Kashmiri monistic Vaishnavism. I believe there was a link and I downloaded the text, but I can’t find it now. Any one remember that or know of it?

Cosmology

I seem to have fallen into a hole when I tried to understand my experience of Universal God Consciousness (UGC). Now that I can see out of the hole, I am once again considering understanding the whole.

I have to say I am ignorant of the cosmology of Kashmir Shaivism, which is funny since this understanding dictates a great deal of where one is going and how one gets there. So with that said I would like some help in clarifying Cosmology according to Kashmir Shaivism.

There are two understandings that arose from my experience, the first one was that the whole of reality exists only within ones own consciousness, meaning there is no objective reality whatsoever. The experience of UGC leaves no doubt that what we experience as reality is nothing but our consciousness. However, if one accepts this as truth the rug is pulled out from ones feet and one is no longer able to do anything. Practicality is not only shot to hell, so is everything else. It goes way beyond renunciation into pure impotence, and all Shaivites should know that Shiva is not impotent.

The second understanding that arose from my experience was that if everything is reduced to nothing but my mind, its only a glorification of the limited individual. However, during UGC one does not experience the universe within ones head, instead its like being wide awake in which everything is clearly perceived, meaning one clearly perceives trees, flowers, bees, grass, clouds, etc… only that there is complete unity and the nature of that unity is Cidananda. It could hardly be said to be localized, instead there was no place in which it was not.

Now to the Cosmology that arose from that. Please forgive me as I talk about circles and other stuff, its seems all very abstract and well, insane.

Imagine a large circle, this circle and all within it is Paramshiva, within this circle is the whole universe. All appearances within this circle are Shakti, in no way is there any difference between the circle (fundamental ground) and the appearances or manifestations. Now imagine a tree and across from the tree is a man. The tree is the object and the man is the subject, and the subject perceives the tree with naked perception. Since there is the perception of a tree, even though it lacks all qualities that would make it a “tree”, it appears and yet is void of any sense of self, but this is not the experience of UGC, within this experience there is still ignorance. This ignorance grows as a subject and an object and a relation in which a certain limited knowledge dawns based on the two. Now all of this is a product of the mans mind, if the man looks close enough he will see that ultimately if he drops all these conceptions, the mind will become still, there is still objective reality it just lacks drapes. Within this stillness is the seed of naked awareness, everything that arises is only this awareness, this capacity to know. If one stays in this state of void-ness, impotence will be ones only reality (I feel for those mistaken Buddhists). If one turns toward this awareness, in an introverted meditation there will only be naked non-relational awareness, this I attributed to Nirguna Brahaman, now when you come out of this meditation, you perceive the external objective world, when this world melts into pure awareness and you know a tree as manifest awareness, you have touched UGC.

The question is, is it all in the mind of the man or is the external objective reality existent within the circle that is Paramshiva, which allows the subject to perceive the object which appears in the mirror of awareness, it all being within the sphere of Paramshiva?

Personally I lean towards the sphere of Paramshiva which validates both subjective and objective reality and unites them in one complete non-dual reality which is of the nature of UGC.

So to those members who know what Kashmir Shaivisms Cosmology is, would you please be so kind as to help me clarify my understanding?

Thank you for your time.
